February’s Ayurvedic Wisdom: Lighten & Warm Up
As winter lingers, Kapha’s heavy, cool, and damp qualities start to build. I’ve always noticed around this time of year these qualities increase in me and instead of feeling the lightness of Spring, I feel heavy and fluid-y. Ayurveda encourages warmth, movement, and lightness to keep energy flowing and digestion strong.
Nourish yourself with with:
Warm & Light Foods - Soups, steamed veg, and herbal teas.
Add Spices for Digestion - Ginger, black pepper, and mustard to awaken your Agni - digestive fire.
Kapha-Balancing Grains would be lighter grains - Barley, millet, and quinoa to keep you energised.
Ease Off On:
Cold, Heavy Foods - Dairy, fried foods, and sweets can slow digestion.
Raw & Damp Foods - Cucumbers, melons, and heavy grains like wheat may increase sluggishness.
Daily Rituals to keep you in balance:
Get up early to shake off winter sluggishness. Don’t eat late into the evening as this will not help you to get up!
Move daily - brisk walks, dynamic yoga, or breathwork. If you struggle to find time to fit these things in - find a way! Like taking a work call while on that brisk walk or playing chasing with the kids. If you find that 15/30 mins any time during the day - sneak in a dynamic yoga practice with energising pranayama. Be creative.
Stay warm with herbal teas and sesame oil self-massage. I love milk based drinks like masala chai and golden milk and will reduce the amount of milk/ oat milk I use for this season. Also taking in spiced herbal teas.
This time of year has always been the season I struggled with and knowing what adaptations the mind/ body needs is a real eye opener. Ayurveda has helped me to feel lighter and enjoy spring rather than feeling heavy and sluggish and wondering why!
This is a perfect time to align your practice and diet with the season.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
